If the house is a machine for living, as Le Corbusier famously said, then the pool is the hedonistic machine for pleasure. And according to Bent, no artist captured the thrill of the quick plunge quite like British artist David Hockney. Hockney not only painted painting swimming pools. He also painted in pools, which inspired Bent for his Bow wallpaper series characterized by their simple motifs of half ellipses.

mural on the bottom of the swimming pool at the Roosevelt Hotel in L.A.'
